It is very important for hermit crabs to have two sources of water, one with distilled water and one with salt water. Surprisingly hermit crabs can stay under water for up to 30 minutes.
When they emerge they carry some of the water in their shells to keep their body moist. Sometimes when you pick your hermit crab up, some of this water will spill out. You also want to make sure your water is deep enough for your hermit crab to fully submerge themselves.
Make sure you use plastic mesh (I like the darice brand plastic mesh) or vines so they are able to get out of the water.
This listing is for a half cup of instant ocean marine salt. One half cup of instant ocean marine salt for every gallon of water. I like to buy a gallon jug of distilled water. Pour the 1/2 cup of instant ocean marine salt into the jug of water and let aerate (sit) for a day or so, allowing it to thoroughly dissolve into the water. Make sure to label your two water jugs so you don't get them mixed up!
